Get Drake Home — My First Ever Outer Field – Themed Game!

There was a point where I just said, you know what, I’m going to teach myself how to make a game. Three weeks, a download of the free version of Construct 2, and a whole lot of google searches, I “finished” my game. Actually, it is more like a mini-game as it is only one level. But, I did it. And sometimes, that is the only reason and reward for doing something.

Technically Speaking

I have no idea what type of code this takes, but the people over at Scirra.com probably do (since they made the tool that allowed me to make the game). You should go and check out their site. I will say, their Construct 2 software is totally awesome, simple to use and just awesome. They really took a lot of the difficult redundant things out of my way so I can just make the game.

There are plenty of help tutorials out there as well. What I did was start out with one of their  out-of-the-box templates. I then began adjusting and tweaking from there. Three weeks later, with various integrated artwork, I had my own piece of work. If you are a person with some drawing ability, an understanding of how if-then-else statements work, I’d recommend this project for you! You will learn a lot, get some of the painful experiences that real developers have, while making something totally unique. It’s a challenge, but also fun to see things doing what you told it to do (which is more than what I can say for my kids sometimes). 🙂

Graphix is hosting a book contest. Now that I got this out of my system, I’m going to start creating that project in the next few days. I think I just like to keep myself busy. Can’t seem to stop doing things.
